On Friday, Wale‘s Ambition Tour made a stop in Arizona and I was there to witness the magic all go down. The show took place at The Clubhouse (in Tempe) and started off with a few local acts, who prepped the stage for Black Cobain; all of these acts were did nothing but pre-heat the crowd for Wale‘s arrival. As soon as Folarin hit the stage the crowd went crazy! Energy was bouncing off the walls, the audience was screaming and pre-empting the lyrics before the rapper could even get to them. His set started off with “90210″ and ended with a more recent songs “Bait” & “Slight Work”. Continue reading “Wale’s Ambition Tour Stops In AZ” »
I seldom have the opportunity to experience hip-hop and its artistry in Arizona, when The Smoker’s Club Tour rolled through I was given a moment to catch up with Smoke DZA for a quick discussion… Continue reading “Exclusive: FaceTime With Smoke DZA” »
Whoever said hip-hop was dead hasn’t seen this performance…. Last Thursday, T3 & Illa J, better known as Slum Village, graced the now cooler state, Arizona. RJ was on the 1s and 2s. The night was LIVE jam packed filled with hip-hop aficionados, an epic performance and J Dilla‘s living memory.
AZ was just the first of many stops Slum Village will be making while on tour with Dwele.
Make sure you check them out while they’re on the road, and hopefully in a city near you.

I met Malice, the critically acclaimed lyricist of the Clipse, during the A3C Festival in Atlanta. Although it had been less than two years since the rap duo released their project, Til the Casket Drops, something about seeing the rapper working on an alternative solo venture all his own made the two years seem like a rearing of an eternity. Unlike other artists, Malice wasn’t at the festival to perform, but rather to promote his book, Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, & Naked. Not very many people go through the gauntlet of industry, experience the highs the lows, make the conscious decision to step away for the sake of self-betterment; yet alone a rapper, who was once notorious for his lyrical anecdotes referencing pushing weight and fast women.
After I took the time to read his book, Malice and I were able to discuss what gave him the courage to write his memoir, the industry, honesty, his impending name change, forthcoming music, and more… He even laid to rest a question that had been troubling me for years. Fashawn has always been a friend to Miss Dimplez.com, so I was more than excited to catch him rocking the stage at A3C. To make things even better, he was joined by beat genius Exile for a song and a beat break.
